Not much news over the summer...the
main thing is that the pool building is now empty and has 24
hour security. This means that the negotiations about a short-term
lease of the building from the Council can start. The idea is
that immediate repairs can be done to the building and then
community groups, artists and others can pay low rents to bring
the building back into use - though obviously not with the swimming
pool at this stage.

STATE OF
POOL
|
Architect Patrick Hammill, ShOW and Hackney
surveyors have been round the pool, since the squatters have
left. Their impression is that any damage is superficial and
doesn't change the original costs to renovate the building.
The immediate issue is to stop the rain water entering the building.
ShOW has employed a quantity surveyor to cost the immediate
repairs.

| POOL USERS
MEETINGS |
The next pool users meeting will be at
Fellows Court on Thursday September 12th at 7pm when members
of the Victoria Baths group from Manchester will be visiting
to speak about the campaign to re-open their swimming pool -
and there will be an update on the state of the Haggerston Pool
and the options for the future of the pool.
|

a newsletter which has been delivered to 3000 homes in the pool
