Pool Users Meeting

We held a meeting of the Pool Users Group on June 13th - the minutes are attached. The meeting heard
updates from Hackney Council, Shoreditch New Deal and Hackney Co-op Developments. And decided to support the idea of Open House and Short Lease - see below.

Hackney Council agree to pool transfer

Hackney Council have agreed in principle to the transfer of the pool if a sound business plan is forthcoming.

Squatters

The Council obtained an eviction order against the squatters on May 17th - which is due to be actioned any day now.

Newsletter

Haggerston Pool Users group are planning to put together a newsletter - to reach out much wider than this email bulletin - if anyone can help with this - either in writing something for the bulletin - or helping particularly with distributing newsletters - even in just one street - please get in touch - 020 7690 6662. Thanks

Short Lease

The Council has agreed to lease the pool building for up to 3 years to Shoreditch New Deal and the Haggerston Pool Community Trust. This will enable groups/individuals to rent rooms within the pool building at low cost for a short term. This is dependent on a health and safely assessment being carried out on the building, and some immediate repair work being carried out. We hope then that for example artists and community groups will start bringing the building back into use.

Open House

Plans are continuing to have Haggerston Pool in the London wide Open House program - this means the building would be open to the public for the first time for the weekend of September 21st and 22nd - just to look around. Again this depends on the Health and Safely assessment of the building - and will also involve a big cleaning up program. More news soon.

Partnership

The beginnings of a partnership group has been formed - to look at how funding can be secured for the pool. This includes Hackney Council, Shoreditch New Deal, Hackney Co-op Developments, The Primary Health Care Trust, The Kingsland Tenants panel, Haggerston Pool Trust and English Heritage. We are submitting our first funding bid for some money to work up a plan for doing up the building.

Haggerston Pool Community Trust

We are looking for new Trustees - is anyone interested in taking on this role? More info from Liz Hughes at HCD on 7690 6662 or reply by email. This involves some of the more detailed work in putting together proposals for the pool.

Sport England and Dept of Culture Media and Sport

Hackney Council are also discussing the future of Haggerston Pool with Sport England and the Dept of Culture Media and Sport.
